Tank Draw-down and Spec sheet

The web guy told me to make these blogs longer than 300 words.  What do you say about Tank size and draw-down that would take up that much space?

I will tell you that tank size will definitely affect the life of any well system for good or bad.  Good would be a two minute run time for every pump.  Bad would be not nearly enough, and switches, motors and impellers failing all the time.  I can tell you the latter is my biggest repair call.

Why do drillers and pump installers sell too small tanks?  Cost.  I myself have cringed at giving a price on a larger tank, when I knew it was an absolute necessity, knowing that the owner would go to my competitor and he may decide to play musical tanks on them.  I have mostly gotten over being too shy about my price, but I am more careful to verbally and contractually warn them in advance of the price differences.

Remember that a pump smaller than one horsepower needs a minimum of a one minute run time – 10 gallons per minute would need 10 gallons of draw-down.

Larger than one horsepower would require a two minute run time.  20 gallons per minute equals 40 gallons of draw-down.
