We are Pump Specialists…repairing “Joe Pasta’s” pump system
At J. P. Anderson Well & Pump LLC we are pump specialists. Anything to do with potable or irrigation water supply pumping is mostly our target work, and we do a lot of “city water” pressure boosting. More of the pumps being used for commercial use are VFD’s or variable frequency drives. These pumps have lots of positive features but have issues that make them very sensitive to changing conditions. In a booster application, pressure fluctuations can create sensor issues that could or will render the pump useless.
In Downtown Charleston pressure fluctuations are quite common. The reason? ‘Ol Mayor Joe doesn’t think a water tower would look good in the historic district, and so our city looks like it did in 1860, but the pressure stinks! But this guy has created a whole new market for booster pumps. We have been selling and advising customers in the historic district with booster pumps since the 1980’s. Many of those customers are commercial customers. One of those customers this week was Joe Pasta at the corner of King and John streets. They need the pressure boosted for dish washing, bathroom sinks, toilet flushing and the second story bar.
They had hired a “plumber” to install their VFD Aquaboost II which was made by Xylem Water Technologies. It went downhill from there…needless to say most “plumbers” need to stick to installing toilets and if they decide to get sophisticated maybe sell and install a Bidet…at least they might be popular with the ladies! This company did the worst job installing this marvelous piece of technology. It would be like buying a Rolls Royce and having a “shadetree” mechanic service it! The picture below is the “before” picture.
We were requested to repair this catastrophe and it was relatively simple. I built the manifold in my shop the night before and it was pretty much “plug and play”. They were doing a new Grand Opening after the recent fire that damaged the office. They were having the pressure issue and tried to resolve it during the repairs, but unfortunately the company they hired would not come back after the system never ran properly. We were able to have them up and running in less than a couple hours. The problem was too much restriction on the incoming water resulting in a code being registered. No codes were showing after our repair. Here is the “After” picture:
We pride ourselves in being as neat as possible. Our plumbing is done to a standard. Our training on VFD technology is second to none! Go ask Joe Pasta who takes care of their pressure boosting from now on!
