Drilling in Really Nice (Landscaped) Yards in Really Hot Temperatures!
Today was one of those days. We tested some wells in a very nice yard, and it was hot! Weatherman said it was gonna be 115 degrees F, but it was so hot, it felt like we were in an oven with the broiler on! Thank goodness for the cool water. We brought two coolers full of water and had one with frozen grapes in it. This was the best way to get your core temperature down. Drilling can be very demanding.
No one can predict what the days weather will truly hold, but it is always good to be prepared. We make sure we have a “cool off kit” to keep us healthy but productive. A cooling tent and fan with misters (homeade) is always nice! When it gets this hot, sometimes it is best to shut down between noon and 3 pm. We will usually schedule travel time in the trucks or a shaded scheduled job. I have had friends who have died in this business, they were pushed and driven to meet the demands of the customer, but did not consider themselves as important. Such as shame and a tragedy to hear about one of these deaths. We work hard to prevent even slight dehydration, which can cause kidney stones in most people.
The wells produced, but were of poor quality and we need to drill more wells to a deeper depth. The drilling rigs will be busy next week. We had rain earlier this week, but not enough. This heat wave is going to bring us some business, and so I am not complaining!
